Hola
I don’t really remember what has been happening the past few weeks. Things have been mashing together. I ended buying a phone so heres my number if anyone wants to talk 844249Phones are pretty cheap here (24 american) and about 5 dollars for 25 minutes I think. I ended up getting one because apparently everyone has been doing activities and meeting up cause they have phones. So I caved. I really havent used it like at all except for a few texts. I was also kinda sick again last week but with what I thought was a rash. I ended up having to go into Managua to get a check up. Found out I have a fungus because of the heat. Its not bad though it doesnt really bother me. On the good side when I went into Managua I got to stay in a hotel and have a hot shower. Also they had some American channel so I got to watch Wipeout (Dave and Steve and possibly ricky) that was really awesome. I also headed into the local mall to get some food. I ended up getting Burger King. I thought this was going to be a religious moment. I sat down and stared at the food for a while I was so happy but then I took the first bite and all that happened was I remember what Burger King tastes like and I wasnt that impressed. I thought for some reason it would be incredible but no its just food. It has great to eat but I think id rather have something home made from the states. Possibly some burritos my mom makes. Also my birthday is coming up in less that a month so im pretty excited. Whats really interesting I find is I found out I was a nominee for the Peace Corp on my birthday last year. This year Ill officially be sworn in as a volunteer around my birthday which is really exciting. Another good thing is I get my site tomorrow. We all filled out our top 3 recommendations but we will be assigned out homes for the next 2 years of our lives. Whatever I get ill be happy and its a good feeling to know that training is coming to a close. Im excited also to see where everyone else ends up. For the past week or so we've been guessing where people will end up. We really have no idea though. So tomorrow around 2 keep your fingers crossed for me.
For the 4th I had a really great day. We went down to the local Laguana de Apolla. A beautiful crater lake. Its surrounded by mountains and is relativity clean water. It was nice being able to swim and get a break from everyday life her. (sorry I didnt bring my camera didnt want to get robed) One of my friends made a ghetto American flag and we waved that around a bunch and had some beers. It will defiantly be one of the 4ths ill never forget.
The R.I.F.T
I dont have many
I dont know if I mentioned this before but I can buy a monkey at one of the sites I could go. So im keeping my fingers crossed.
On the fourth we meet up with some Germans and it was interesting to look to my left and see some Peace Corp people and some Nicas talking then to my right was some Germans and more peace corps people speaking Spanish. (They still have a German accent when speaking Spanish its funny) Ohh and go Germany!!!!!
Found out my brother down here is having another kid. So his girlfriend down here has been sick a bit and I feel bad for her. But shes doing good and im really excited for them because they will be moving into a new home about the time they have the baby. On a more sad note I think he got a letter to go to court for his other son. Im not sure whats going on but I was reading a letter today about some court appearance and his son.
I lost my rain coat. But in the last week I managed to acquire 2 umbrellas and a rain coat. People keep leaving stuff after we hang out. Ill give it back but its awesome to have for now.
A golden lady bug yea no joke GOLDEN, landed on me today. I think that means im super lucky for the month/ year.
One site im hoping for (Ocotal, Nueva Segovia) is like 10 minutes from Handuras but I also heard its the 2nd most land mined place in the world and im planning on going hiking so there could be problems there. Or im going to bring home some cool landmines from the 60s.
Lastly I went to a really traditional fiesta in my peublo a few weeks ago. The music and dances were really great to see and I enjoyed everything except...................
At the very end Lady Gaga comes on and then some rap music and kids started breakdancing on stage. It was cool and all but just seemed so out of place. Im sure you have seen video of the traditional dances of Latin America there beautiful but then Lady Gaga really. Love you all
May Peace be onto you
Peter
